In the overview of digital pens on offer all mentioned technologies are limited to use special pen. In the best case you will need only dock station for PC connection to charge and synchronize. But mosf of the devices use special paper. It’s a good business idea to earn on retail stuff but it’s unhandy to carry sketchbook with you anywhere. I got many replies that people wouldn’t use this pen because of trivial reason. It is inconvenient to use it as a pen. Most people complains that while writing the tip should be seen obligatory, other people say that holding such heavy pen is annoying, and waiting for a pen boot up or charging for hours is unacceptable at all. These responses remind us the first fact considered in pen brainstorming session: The pen should comply universal standards: weight, length, form!
Technology suggested below utilizes usual pen and usual paper.Two web-cameras are tracking a tip of a pen in a flat surface from a clipped receiver. While writing tip pushes piezoelectric to make a flash, thus sending receiver electro-magnetic signal whether is pen drawing (touching surface). A little know-how of this concept is that you have to paint a tip with infra-red fluorescent ink. Cameras capture only narrow strip of area over the sheet, so there are not much data to process during recognizing.
How to handle a shift of the paper relative to the clip?
If you would occasionally screen the tip of the cam receiver will beep. Unfortunately many people usually lay a hand above writing.
In the business world the more important are applications of new device rather than revolutionary functionality.

Linking of the audio note to the place on the sheet is already done by Livescribe using marked paper. The same function can be realized for regular paper:
write link – on finishing record pen shows unique number of the record and you can write it on a paper starting with special sign
read link – with clipper mounted – by coordinates
without clipper – by applying record number with eraser (back tip of the pen) starting with special sign
Smart calculations
Pen auto-completion – calculator, formats converter (currency, measures, etc). While writing, unrecognizable symbols are highlighted on the embedded screen of the pen with color, and beep produces.
Mobile phone adjuvant (already implemented)
Pen as input device for mobile phone. Use any surface to control a pointer like with mouse with no overlaying with fingers on top of that the small screen. Or, if you prefer see the changes under your tip – it can be a stylus of course.
Screen of mobile phone can be a place only for one or two short handwritten words. User will see the result of recognized text in a string above. As he cannot focus attention on two places at the same time, his writing letter by letter will be highlighted by green or red colors if it was recognized successfully and with orange – for ambiguous situations.
